Beverages and Light Snacks Provided

How are Emory faculty using Twitter as a substantive platform for public scholarship? And how are they managing and mitigating the inevitable unruliness of social media? Three faculty will talk about the whys and hows of their Twitter feeds to have a broader social impact with their work.

Cecile Janssens, Research Professor of Translational Epidemiology in the Rollins School of Public Health, will discuss “Tweetorials,” short Twitter “lectures” that may lead to academic publications down the road. @cecilejannsens has 6,677 Twitter followers.

Carol Anderson, Charles Howard Candler Professor of African American Studies, will talk about her engagement with the platform to bring her work to bear on current news cycles, as well as how she deals with trolling and other forms of online harassment. @ProfCAnderson has 24,200 Twitter followers.

Jen Heemstra, Associate Professor of Chemistry, well explain how she has used her Twitter feed to establish her presence as a resource for academic career advice. @jenheemstra has 31,100 Twitter followers.

If you require a disability-related accommodation to participate in this event, please contact Allison Adams, CFDE, at 727-5269 or aadam02@emory.edu to arrange services. Early requests are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time to meet your access needs.
