Daniel Douek is a Senior Investigator and Chief of the Human Immunology Section at the Vaccine Research Center of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health. Dr. Douek studied medicine at the Universities of Oxford and London and became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (London). He completed his postdoctoral work at the Rockefeller University and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. While a postdoctoral fellow, he developed a method to measure human thymic output, the "TREC assay, which is used worldwide to diagnose immune deficiency in newborn babies. In 2021, Dr. Douek launched the PREMISE pandemic preparedness initiative at the Vaccine Research Center.
