Mike Edelson, PMP, GISP
In a previous role, Mike built a GIS Department in a small Atlanta IT Firm, taking the department from zero revenue to $1.6 million annually. Under Mike’s leadership, his team expanded from 2 to 16 geospatial professionals and earned multiple awards in Urban Planning GIS, including the URISA Exemplary Systems in Government Award in 2014 for Brookhaven, GA, and in 2016 for Sandy Springs, GA.
Mike's career includes Military Master Planning GIS services for multiple U.S. defense agencies in over a dozen military installations throughout the Middle East, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, and Qatar. Mike also managed a multi-year delivery of GIS services for the mapping and permitting of two nuclear power plants in the southeast U.S.
Mike, along with Dr. Lilly Immergluck, is a co-founder of the GIS Collaboratory, a multidisciplinary collective of public, private, and healthcare sector individuals dedicated to leveraging geospatial technology to address complex medical challenges. In 2023, after several years of dedicated effort, the GIS Collaboratory achieved a milestone by publishing four research papers, bringing its total for the group to six publications since its inception.
Mike holds a bachelor's degree in Geography from Florida State University. Mike has been a registered Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) since 2008 and a certified Professional Project Manager (PMP) since 2022. Mike is a 2016 Leadership DeKalb Academy graduate and completed his Business Communications Certificate at the Emory Continuing Education program in March 2022.
