Dr. Shannon Gourley Awarded Curt Richter Award in Milan, Italy
Sent on behalf of Ami Klin, PhD & Lynn Perez, Vice President, Marcus Autism Center
Dr. Shannon Gourley, Associate Professor (with tenure) in our Division and at Yerkes, was awarded the prestigious Curt Richter Award in Milan, Italy, last week, for internationally acclaimed advances in psychoneuroendocrinology made by a young investigator around the globe. This prize is given to one investigator per year by the International Society of Psychoneuroendocrinology, and Shannon is the 2019 recipient. In 35 years, this is, we believe, the third time a scientist with (eventual) associations with Emory is awarded the Curt Richter Award: Charles Nemeroff in 1985 and Tom Insel in 1991. Dr. Nemeroff rose to become Chair of Emory’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences from 1991 to 2008, and Tom Insel was director of Yerkes from 1994 and 1999, and director of NIMH from 2002 until 2015.
Please join us in congratulating Shannon for this amazing accomplishment. Shannon has made extraordinary contributions to our scientific and teaching missions, at Yerkes, at Emory neuroscience more generally, and on behalf of the Marcus-Yerkes collaborations –these collaborations leverage the best of neuroscience in the service of discoveries in neurodevelopmental and mental health disabilities.
