The APA YIA Funding Path supports projects in health services research, medical education, adolescent medicine, public health, epidemiology, emergency medicine, child maltreatment, hospital medicine, developmental/behavioral pediatrics, and other general pediatric clinical research domains. The YIA Program is particularly interested in proposals that address health equity.
Eligibility
For each proposal, the young investigator and his/her/their chosen mentor(s) must be members of the Academic Pediatric Association.
Because the goal of the YIA Program is to support early career investigators develop into successful researchers, preference will be given to those with demonstrated need for research experience and mentorship. This may include those who have limited prior extramural funding, or who have yet to establish a clear track record of scholarly work and/or research.
Proposals are welcome from those who are:
- Faculty members no more than 5 years out from completion of all training (fellowship or post-doc)
- Fellows
- Residents
- Other individuals involved in research aligned with the APA's mission who are within 5 years of completion of training
Exceptions:
- Extended family leave
- Job sharing
- Military service and deployment.
- Graduates of APA Scholars Programs that include a focus on research may be granted an additional 3 years beyond completion of the APA Scholars Programs, provided their academic rank is at an Instructor or Assistant Professor-level, or the equivalent.
Applicants requesting extended eligibility should include the following items with their proposal submission:
- An additional statement of 3 sentences or less describing their situation and rationale for this request. This statement should be provided on a separate document within the application and does NOT count toward the application page limit.
- The primary mentor's letter of support should attest to the applicant's commitment to research and support the request for extended eligibility.
Receipt of applications is encouraged from individuals who are members of an underrepresented minority (UIM), disabled, or from a socially, culturally, economically, or educationally disadvantaged background.
Previous RAPID Scholars and YIA recipients are not eligible to apply.
