General Equipment Core

The General Equipment Core, located within the Emory-Children’s Center (ECC) and the Health Science Research Building (HSRB), provides access to shared equipment to all Emory+Children’s affiliated investigators. This equipment is available to all ECPRC affiliated investigators but please be advised:

  •       Usage log must be filled out each time the equipment is used. This information is used to assess the usefulness of the core and its impact on pediatric research.
  •       The equipment is shared by others and so it is to be used temporarily, on an as-needed basis.
  •        No samples or supplies are to be left in or around the equipment.
  •       The equipment and surrounding areas should be cleaned thoroughly after each use.
  •       Biohazard waste (solid and liquid) should be disposed of properly.

Policy Update Effective January 1st, 2018

EQUIPMENT: Based on current usage patterns, the following Equipment Core items will no longer be maintained on a service contract:

  • New Brunswick Shaker Incubator (s)
  • Thermo Scientific Legend Micro 17 Micro centrifuge
  • Eppendorf 5810R Table Top Centrifuge (s)
  • Bio-Rad Gen Pulser XCell Electroporation System

This equipment will remain as part of the General Equipment Core and will be available for use until the time repairs are required.  Once this equipment becomes nonfunctional, the equipment will be advertised as available for transfer to an individual laboratory prior to disposal.

COMPUTERS: As of January 1, 2018, equipment core computers will be configured to no longer allow short or long-term storage of data.  A temporary index will be created when users log onto the core computers, that will be deleted when the user logs out immediately deleting any data stored on the desktop or the hard drive. It is of the utmost importance for users to take the extra step to save their data to their Box or other personal drives or external storage before logging off. All core computers are connected to the Emory Network allowing users to save data directly to their personal drives with ease. Please contact IT support if you need assistance with data storage.
