“Understanding correlates of protection against Influenza virus and SARS-CoV-2 through longitudinal multidimensional Omics analyses"
Dr. Medina is an Associate Professor at the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and the Emory Vaccine Center at Emory University School of Medicine and serves as the Scientific Director of the Emory High Containment Facilities. Dr. Medina has over 23 years of research experience on emerging and zoonotic viruses, including hantaviruses, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), and Influenza. He currently conducts basic and translational interdisciplinary research using systems biology strategies to understand zoonosis, the molecular basis of disease, pathogenesis, and resilience, and the global host responses induced by RNA viruses. Since 2012, Dr. Medina has spearheaded the establishment of influenza and COVID-19 cohorts to study host-pathogen interactions and the innate and humoral immune responses elicited following natural infection and vaccination. Dr. Medina is Senior Editor of Microbiology Spectrum, editorial board member of the Journal of Virology, and has served as an ad hoc reviewer for multiple scientific journals in the area of virology and infectious diseases, and has been a member of the review panel of numerous international research programs.
