"Dissecting the role of neutrophils in Mycobacterium tuberculosis immunopathology"
Rachel Kinsella, PhD,
Assistant Professor, Emory University School of Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease
Affiliate scientist, Emory Vaccine and Emory Primate Centers
About Speaker: Dr. Rachel Kinsella completed her PhD at the University of Alberta, where she characterized mechanisms of pathogenesis in Acinetobacter baumannii with Dr. Mario Feldman. She then pursued postdoctoral training at Washington University in St. Louis with Dr. Christina Stallings, focusing on the role of the early immune response in controlling Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection and identifying bacterial factors that drive disease by altering early innate immune responses. During this time, Rachel identified host immune mechanisms that contribute to control of infection by suppressing neutrophil-dominated inflammation and regulating neutrophil effector functions during M. tuberculosis infection.
