"Cerebral Malaria: Development of Novel Biomarkers and Interventions Against Mortality and Post-Treatment Sequelae"

Dr. Jonathan K. Stiles, PhD, FASTM, is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry & Immunology at Morehouse School of Medicine. His NIH and NSF funded research focus on the molecular pathogenesis of CNS-impacting infectious diseases—including cerebral malaria and African trypanosomiasis—and the immunopathogenesis of sickle cell disease. He also helps build the next generation of global health researchers as Co‑Director of the NIH Fogarty Global Health Fellows Training Program and is widely recognized for his scholarship and mentorship. A committed mentor and capacity‑builder, he has authored 100+ peer‑reviewed publications, holds multiple patents, and serves on editorial boards and scientific review panels spanning infectious disease and neuroimmunology. He currently serves as Chair of the International Board of Directors for the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research at the University of Ghana, and Board Member on the Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH).  Most recently, Dr. Stiles was recognized with inclusion in Wiley’s Index of Inspiring Black Scientists, a curated global resource highlighting outstanding Black scientists and their contributions.
