HeRO Career Conversations Seminar Series
Location: HSRB II N600
We will kick off our inaugural Career Conversations seminar on August 15th with Dr. R. Nathan Correll from the University of Alabama! Dr. Correll earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the University of Kentucky, where he studied how RGK GTPases regulate voltage-gated Ca2+ channels, including the L-type channel that initiates excitation-contraction coupling in the heart. Later, as a postdoc at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, he examined how defects in ER stress signaling contribute to cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure. Currently, Dr. Correll is an assistant professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alabama where his work focuses on how dysregulation of the sarcoplasmic/endoplasmic reticulum contributes to heart disease.
Presentation Title: "Establishing a cardiac disease-focused research program in a basic biology environment"
