Research

Dr. Fonoudi's research focuses on leveraging cardiac organoid models to investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying complex congenital and acquired cardiovascular defects. Using patient-specific induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), her lab aims to recapitulate key aspects of human heart development and disease in vitro. By modeling the interactions among multiple cardiac cell types, their work seeks to elucidate how disruptions in specific genes alter cellular communication and tissue organization, ultimately contributing to disease pathogenesis. Dr. Fonoudi's research team's overarching goal is to advance mechanistic understanding and identify novel therapeutic targets for cardiovascular disorders.
