CF Academy for Caregivers & Researchers
CF Academy is an annual continuing education program presented by the Emory+Children’s CF Center. It is designed to familiarize providers, nurses, social workers, and respiratory therapists with the pathophysiology and treatments for cystic fibrosis. As CF patients are not seen solely in their specialized clinics, the goal of this program is to improve knowledge of other healthcare workers and thus improve the quality of care CF patients receive. CF Academy is presented every fall and is eligible for continuing education units. The typical schedule includes a morning of informal didactics with question and answer sessions, followed by small group sessions focusing on particular aspects of CF care, including airway clearance, nutrition, adherence, and research. The CF Academy for 2014 took place on December 9th. Approximately 65 staff members from all three CF@LANTA campuses attended, as well as a group of respiratory therapy students and representation from the GA CFF Chapter. We had a wide variety of speakers from all three Atlanta programs and they represented every aspect of the multi-disciplinary team in the care of our CF patients. Feedback for the day long course was very positive and many participants plan to incorporate their learning into their everyday practice.
