Online Course Catalog with Free Trainings for Clinical Research Professionals

The Georgia Clinical and Translational Science Alliance (Georgia CTSA) and the University of Southern California Clinical and Translational Science Institute (SC CTSI) are collaborating on an exciting new educational venture geared toward clinical research professionals at every stage of their professional development. There is a new Online Course Catalog with free course and program offerings available to clinical research professionals and principal investigators. These courses and programs are created and vetted by experts in cross-disciplinary fields such as instructional design, technology, workforce development, regulatory science, clinical and translational science, and operations.

Introduction to Clinical and Translational Research

This 4-part program builds learner knowledge and expertise in the interpretation of the Clinical and Translational Research (CTR) literature using written and supplemental materials, videos, interactive graphics, and self-assessment.

Part 1: Understanding the Translational Science Research Ecosystem

Part 2: Basic Concepts Defining the Analytic Approach to Research

Part 3: Elements of Clinical and Translational Research Studies

Part 4: Clinical and Translational Research Study Design Types

Statistical Challenges of Adaptive and Innovative Study Designs

Approaches to testing the efficacy and safety of innovative therapies requires regulatory agencies adapt her policies for appropriate oversight. Insights on the FDA’s current regulatory interests will be provided along with an exploration of various adaptive and innovative study designs.

Pediatric Trials

A general overview of pediatric trials, discussing pediatric subpopulations, laws related to pediatric research, the consent process, and clinical trial design considerations. The level of cognitive ability of developing children, ethics, the physiological changes associated with human growth, and data perceptual influences associated with age will be highlighted. A case study investigating the effects of caffeine on newborns and whether breast feeding versus formula feeding affected caffeine metabolism differently is presented.

Regulatory Trends

Notable regulatory trends such as the FDA’s requirements for clinical trial diversity, the emergence of digital health products, and the use of surrogate endpoints will be discussed.

On completion of a course or program (series of courses), participants earn a certificate or badge with contact hours (continuing education – CE) from an accredited provider. Contact hours can be used to meet requirements for Clinical Research Professional (CRP) certification renewal.

Free, one-time registration to the Georgia CTSA Online Course Catalog is available to the first 400 registrants.  Registration provides unlimited access to all courses and programs in the Georgia CTSA Online Course Catalog now and in the future. View the Online Course Catalog to get started.
