Severe Asthma Research

Asthma is the most common chronic lung disease of childhood. Asthma currently affects nearly 10% of all children in Georgia and accounts for more than half a million missed school days each year. Unfortunately, asthma is poorly controlled in many of these children. As a result, asthma is the most common disorder treated at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Our team is focused on four areas that will directly impact patients’ lives: Health Equity, Airway Immune System, Environmental Triggers, and Novel Therapies.

Asthma Research Focus Areas

Ensuring that all children with asthma have access to effective treatments regardless of their social situation

Understanding why children with asthma who catch cold viruses have wheezing and asthma attacks

Understanding how environmental exposures contribute to airway inflammation and symptoms
